How to Use:
On an average a woman takes about 3 - 4 cycles to perfectly learn how to use a Safecup.
Step 1 -Sterlization -When and for how long?
Safecup should be boiled in water for 10 minutes.
You should boil the cup before every cycle and at the end of every cycle, i.e. before storing it.
If your cycle lasts for more than 3 days, then you should boil it once in the middle of the cycle too.For example, if the cycle is of 5 days, then boil on Day 1,Day 3 and then after the cycle is over.
Tips on Sterlization:
Make sure the vessel is deep and there is enough water for the cup to float. If the cup touches the bottom of the vessel, it will melt.
Do not leave the stove idle, once the water evaporates, the cup will come in contact with the bottom of the vessel and it will melt.
Do not use the microwave to boil the cup.Microwave is a closed environment. It is not hygienic to boil the cup in the microwave.Use a separate vessel and stove only.
If you don't want to boil the cup in the kitchen,a more convenient way is to invest in a Safecup electric sterilizer that you can keep in your room or even your bathroom!
Step 2 -Insertion
How to fold the cup?
There are two most popular folds used by women around the globe. The C-fold and the Punch-down fold.
You can try which one works for you the best. The punch down fold works great if the C-fold does not help in opening the cup inside the vagina.
How do I know the cup is sitting properly?
Rotate the cup a little bit after inserting.Once you rotate the cup,it will self-adjust and the seal will be created. The cup needs to be sealed and a vacuum will be created.
Now,try to pull your cup down, very gently. If the vacuum is created,it will not come down with your gentle pull.
With your index finger touch all sides of the cup.Basically, move your index finger around the cup to see if the fold has completely opened.
Step 3 -Removal
You cannot expect the cup to come out when you simply pull it.You need to pinch the bottom of the cup and then pull it out.You may rotate the cup a little bit when pulling it out.
Try it doing the shower time the first few times because when youre learning,it can get messy.
You need to rinse it with water and re-insert it.You don't need to boil the cup every time you remove it.
You don't need to use any soap.In fact majority of the soaps available arent good for the cup or the vagina.
Step 4 -Storing your safecup
Do not store the menstrual cup in closed containers.Breathability is important for storage of the menstrual cup. Therefore, the menstrual cup must be stored in the pouch provided.Do not store the menstrual cup in the outer carton, since the outer carton does not have ventilation.
Store the menstrual cup in the pouch in a clean environment, preferably not in the bathroom.
Before storing the cup, remember to boil it for 10 minutes!
